Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started? Our story starts in Florida, raising my children with my first husband who was very ill for many years. I owned a healthy living center there, however we decided to leave that behind and move to Michigan in 2010 to be near family. I worked at a health food store for eight years after this where I continued to absorb a well rounded knowledge of natural and alternative living practices. During this time, my first husband passed in 2015 and my daughters went off to college in 2018. I decided to create a new business that would help people who are going through similar journeys that myself and my family had experienced. I believe in spiritual gifts and I have discovered that mine is to help people in this particular way. In Florida, my business was retail-oriented. Given my increased understanding of diet with regard to health and wellness I wanted to take it to the next level. In my experience at the health food store, I would talk to a person for maybe 30 minutes. They would ask for advice and I would take them around the store showing the products that would help in their particular situation. Talking as fast as I could to upload as much information as possible so it might help to start them on a healthier path. Sometimes others would stop to listen to what I had to say and ask more questions. Overwhelmingly, the number one comment I received was, “Can I take you home with me?” So, there you go, My Health Freaks, Lifestyle Management was born. Unlike a health coach, we help with the follow-through. Whether it’s cleaning their home with our own products, doing their personal shopping, bringing order to the home and casting out harmful toxins, finding solutions for them through project management, the list goes on… Our goal is to reduce inflammation through diet and stress management while removing toxins in their environment. Currently, I am very happily remarried to a fellow health freak and now business partner Joseph Edsall. Joe is actively involved with the day to day management of our business. He is our handyman extraordinaire and project manager. He juggles a whole host of projects while supervising a number of focused cleaning jobs. Amy is our scheduler as well as our social media marketing manager. Along with those responsibilities she handles a mountain of other tasks and is the glue that keeps us going. Together we make a fantastic team with great communication that keeps our clients so happy! I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far? Well, there have been a lot of obstacles for sure! Being a caregiver for my ill husband for more than 10 years was by far the most challenging. However, leaving my much loved business in Florida genuinely broke my heart. Moving my family over 1,000 miles from the only home they knew was no easy task. Continuing to manage caregiving with a job I loved and then becoming a single parent when their father passed presented even more challenges. Starting over with a new business was terrifying! Another was developing natural cleaning supplies we provide to all clients, it was plenty of trial and error for sure. However, we now have a great formula that all our clients love! I have had many challenges in life and overcome them by consistently working towards a healthy body, heart, and mind. While struggling with my own health issues, my daughters began to struggle with a variety of health issues, at which point I was introduced to gluten & dairy free living in 2008. Since, I’ve dedicated my life to learning more about the toxins we encounter through our food, homes, etc. with the intention of helping myself and my daughter. I did this through my pursuits of working at and owning healthy home centers over the course of 10+ years. This also gave me a first-hand look at the struggles of real people looking for relief in some element of their life. I learned from each and every person I spoke to and applied those teachings to my own life. From arthritis and digestive issues to other health challenges, I have learned to heal myself through the help of diet, natural remedies, and consistent work, and even the development of my own cleaning supply recipe that is now integrated into My Health Freaks. Since altering my food choices, spending my life learning about holistic health to benefit myself and my family, and marrying my husband and business partner, Joseph, in 2024, I get to reap the benefits of that healthy living work. Many of my health struggles, including arthritis, have completely disappeared! Through it all, I can say that your choices matter! I created My Health Freaks as a means to guide our clients and make a toxin-free home an achievable goal. Hey, my name is Joe and I’m a jack-of-all-freaks: your go-to health freak for all of your handyman needs. I have years of experience in a variety of things. I can take care of plumbing, wall hanging, and other various repairs. I have experience working inside and outside of the home in a wide range of trades. I am Renee’s husband and business partner, and we together are heavily involved in product development that will eventually be woven into the fabric of My Health Freaks. Outside of work, you’ll find me spending time with Renée, going dancing, seeking out great food, and many other things.
